About
After retiring I picked up a hobby making old fashioned bar and liquid soap from plant oils like my great grandparents did. Not synthetic soap. Like many home soapmakers it satsified my passion and desire to do something good for the planet and my health. It grew into a small word of mouth custom soap business. The bars were OK but I did not like selling liquid soap that required single use plastic or preservatives or shipping water that burned fossil fuels and contributed to climate change. I had done enough of that while working as a Ph.D chemist on commerical liquid soaps back in the 1980's. Experimenting one day I discovered something I realized could change all that. After over 2 years of development and testing at my cabin in the forest on the river in Minnesota I created and patented the SunSeed and SunSeed Soap was born!
I produce the SunSeeds at my cabin on the river using 100% energy from the Sun....thus the first part of the name. The small tablets or "seeds" (2nd half of the name) blossom into liquid soap when added to water in a glass soap dispenser. No synthetic soap, preservtives, addtiives, colorants or scents. I am an advocate of 100% transparency and list all ingredients in each foil pack of soap and in the FAQ on this site. SunSeed Soap is the only soap in the world made with good things for the planet that can make foaming soap OR thick luxurious liquid soap from the same little SunSeeds. Scented only with my creation of non fossil fuel based essential oil blends. Or Unscented. No plastic bottles or fossil fuels used in making or shipping. I refuse to use any bad for the planet shipping or packing materials. After many trials and tribulatiuons I developed an easily opened hermetically and moisture sealed packaging that not only uses no plastic but uses recycled aluminum foil with 25% the energy of normal aluminum foil.
I love my 20 acres of forest on the River above all else except of course my beloved wife and my beloved running partner and CEO (Canine Executive Officer) Sundae. My cabin is entirely powered by solar and geothermal. I created a conservation easement on my land to protect it in perpetuity from development. I volunteer at and donate soap to the Osprey Environmental Learning Center near Sandstone, Minnesota. The Center teaches children about the environment and makes them better future stewards of our planet. I volunteer for Third Act, a climate change organization created by Bill McKibben to engage baby boomers in the "third act" of their lives to make a difference. Help me make a difference.
